One of the most traditional Greek distillates, Mastiha, comes from the resin of the Lentisco tree, which grows on the island of Chios. This resin, which is called mastic, was believed to have healing properties (for the ancient Greeks), was an excellent natural additive for wine (for the Romans) and even a perfumed balm to use on the body or for bad breath (in Turkish culture).
The sweet and sour taste is characterized by pleasant bitter notes, while its vegetal and balsamic trait makes it really flexible and therefore suitable for the preparation of cocktails or to give a Mediterranean touch to your kitchen.
